What makes an exceptional board member
What Makes an Exceptional Board Member? Excerpted from a letter from the President It takes more than a commitment to an organization’s mission to become an exceptional board member. When deciding to accept nomination to a board one must take into consideration the following: you must be forward thinking, passionate, possess the necessary business skills, be willing to respectfully listen to other’s ideas, and work as a team. It is important that you be willing to act as an ambassador that promotes the Association. Networking and using your industry connections and resources to help grow the organization is necessary. Most importantly, the willingness to give of your time is crucial. Board members responsibilities often extend beyond committee duty. Board members should expect that they may be asked to attend special events, volunteer for additional activities unrelated to the board duties and may be asked to provide in-kind/pro bono professional services to the organization. When asked to accept nomination for the RPA board, please consider whether you have the necessary components needed to be an exceptional board member. You are agreeing to a four-year volunteer commitment, with expenses covered by you, or your sponsoring company. When serving on the board you are representing your industry peers and ensuring that their voices are being heard. Respectfully, Dorothy Biggs (Viega) |
